'An Outline'

“Outlines give a visual structure to your work and are used to show relationships and hierarchies within your content.”

“To outline, you must create a linear, organized plan for your paper that shows the main ideas that you will discuss as well as their relationships within the paper.”

So, It is called ‘An Outline’  because this is the start to my visual argument. It forms a relationship to the content of my work. The artwork creates an organized plan that shows the main ideas that follow in the rest of the artworks.

Head coverings are not exclusive to only Muslim woman. So:

Why am I in the center of a global debate? Why is the Muslim woman in Hijab discriminated against. We are all the same, yet I am made to feel different.

'Me'

So, why beads? Just like rosary beads, in islam we have Tasbeeh beads, which helps one keep track of their prayers. The beads help to further strengthen the connection with Allah.

The reason for using the beads in my artwork is because when I wear my Hijab I feel closer to my creator and it adds to the stippling inspired technique.

'Different, Yet the same'

Now, zooming into the one with Hijab (ME) from artwork 1, this art piece is focused on ME wearing different head coverings. The one in Hijab is completed differently because when wearing Hijab I am seen as being different. Even though, all the head coverings that I wear in this artwork covers all my hair , when I wear my Hijab then only it grabs people’s attention. I am seen differently, yet I am the same person when wearing a beanie for instance.

The boxes too creates that stippling inspired technique because from far you see the same person, which is Myself and all looks the same. But, when you go closer you see the one in hijab being “different”.

'Don't judge, ask why;I & II'

To conclude the debate, I took a political debate and made it personal. I took ownership of the debate and hence I used all the people in my life wearing hijab as part of the final artwork.

Pearls rank among the most popular gems in the world. With a serene beauty, they make perfect compliments to flashier gems. Yet, they also possess an elegance that can shine along. The pearl is the emblem of modesty and purity. In this analogy, the pearl signifies every female and the shell is the protective covering. Like a pearl which has intrinsic value, a female needs protection against being exposed visually.

From the very beginning, my ideas built up on the quote by Muhammed Ali, “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls and you should be covered too.” and hence this artworks
